Introduction to Commerce Department Export Controls – US Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is responsible for implementing and enforcing the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which regulate the export and re-export of most commercial or “dual-use” items.
Introduction to State Department Export Controls – US Department of State, Directorate of Defense Controls is charged with controlling the export and temporary import of defense articles and defense services covered by the United States Munitions List (USML) in accordance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

The Commerce Dept’s Bureau of Industry and Security published “Don’t Let This Happen to You: An Introduction to U.S. Export Control Law” in April 2005. It lists numerous enforcement cases, some of which you may be interested in reviewing. Most are industry, not university cases, although the areas of technology often overlap with the work at Georgia Tech.
